The World’s An Illusion

Well it’s been awhile since I took the time to sit and write for a few minutes. There’s always something to do and the days just slip by and turn into weeks. But an idea has been forming and I think it may be ready to hatch, so let’s type a little and see what emerges.

I’ve heard this title a time or two from different sources and wondered how that works. Knock on wood, hmm, doesn’t sound like and illusion or feel like an illusion. So what is all this ‘illusion’ stuff? Well I think I may have gotten a piece of it figured out. I’ve said, for most of my adult life:

“If you don’t like the way something is change it!. If you can’t change it change the way you perceive it.”

It has occurred to me that the world really is what we perceive it to be. Dyer in the Power of Intention states, “Change the way you see things and the things you see will change.” It’s a common thread in many of the ‘spiritual’ and ‘positive thinking’ types of teachings. But is the world really what you perceive it to be or does changing your perception just change how it appears to you? The answer to that, I believe is that to you it doesn’t really matter. The reality of almost all situations in life is whatever you perceive it to be.

Stop and think about that for a minute. You draw to yourself what you think about. So you’re poor, you think constantly about having more money – so the message you send to life is “I don’t have enough!”, so life accommodates you and sees to it that you continue to not have enough. If on the other hand you are constantly thankful for what you do have and spend life being grateful for its many blessings, the message is “I have so much…..” and so life sends you a little more. But the point isn’t really how life responds to your state of mind, it’s that you can have two people with basically the same ‘stuff’ and whether that’s lack or abundance is totally determined by their way of looking at it.

There are a thousand sayings, “Life is what you make of it.”, “You get out what you put in.”, Biblical, “You reap what you sow”…… the list goes on and on. Man has known for thousands of years that the world is what we make it into and yet we continue to fill the world with suffering? The way out of that dilemma is to change the collective consciousness and we do that one consciousness at a time. So I’ll just keep working at eliminating the negative from my mind and we’ll see where that leads. Let’s see if maybe the collective we can “Change the way we see the world” which would lead to the second half of that idea “and the world will change.” :))
